This weekend we headed south west to the quaint Colorado town of Telluride. Being Autumn, we headed off to see all the gorgeous fall colours. It isn't like back East (New Hampshire & Vermont) where you get a wide range of colours from reds right the way through the colour spectrum to the yellows. It is more like a range of brilliant yellows and some oranges. Obviously there are reds in there as well but the yellows of the Aspen's dominate the landscape. In many places the colours were so striking it looked like the trees were on fire. Just beautiful! I think this year I had more of an appreciation for the unique beauty of Colorado in the Fall. It certainly is something to see. We didn't have great weather. Most of the weekend it was cloudy with an impending storm looming over head but it really didn't take away from the brilliance of the Mountains in full colour.
We stayed in a condo right at the base of the mountain and just near the towns Gondola, which we ventured up in the morning. We were wishing and dreaming we had a condo just like it in Breckenridge, for when we go skiing. Hey, dreams are free!! It actually started to snow while we were at the top of the Gondola and it almost made Simon salivate. To say he is hanging out for the ski season is an understatement. Honestly, I think he thinks he wasn't alive until he strapped on a pair of skis. Funny Boy. Anyway, as I said we ventured up and then down the other side to check out the ski town on the other side of the mountain. It is beautiful. There were some magnificent ski in ski out homes. We were joking about seeing Tom, Katie and Suri cruising (ha ha - I had to say it) around town but we didn't spot anyone of note. Apparently they have a place there somewhere. So that tells you right there what type of town it is. Really beautiful and full of people with lots of $$ Obscene really. It was nice to dream if only for a day or two. As beautiful as the town was, it really did just fade into the background of the fabulous trees in all their fall beauty. A trip well worth taking . . . and taking again!
And seriously, these photos don't do justice to the actual brilliance of the colours.
